![]() ![]() Perhaps the most requested feature from Pro Tools users, with the Pro Tools 12.4 release, Avid added Track Freeze for both Pro Tools HD and Standard. Track Freeze enables Pro Tools users to reclaim CPU power by 'freezing' instruments and plug-ins on the Pro Tools timeline as audio. Here is a summary of Pro Tools 12.3 features. In addition Avid introduced AudioSuite Pitch Legacy, and for those working in post production support for Avid DNxIO video interface. There were also welcome improvements to fades with the new Batch Fade option and shortcuts. Pro Tools 12.3 also gave Clip Transparency which means that while editing audio or moving Pro Tools clips or fades the clips now display the waveform as well as the clip below too. For many this was a welcome way to bounce-in-place the audio as well as create audio versions of instruments in Pro Tools. Pro Tools 12.3 HD and Standard saw the arrival of Track Commit and Track Bounce workflows. Those using Pro Tools HD and Native on an Avid Access Plan also received free Avid Plug-ins, here is a summary of the Pro Tools 12.2 features. Pro Tools 12.2 brought more goodies to owners of the standard version of Pro Tools: VCA Masters, Disk Cache, Advanced Metering, Gain Reduction Metering. With Pro Tools 12.1 Avid also introduced Pro Tools | Control support, support for Pro Tools | S3 VCA Spill, and again other Pro Tools stability improvements. ![]() These features were previously only available to Pro Tools HD owners but became free. Pro Tools 12.1 Native now had track input monitoring, AFL/PFL Solo Modes and well as Copy to Send. I have sessions shared through dropbox (where they sync through) and will open on whichever system I need (Mac HDX system, PC laptop running HD with RME.) Two things - it's take a little while to get used to the modifier key. Pro Tools 12.1 – Launched June 2015įor Pro Tools Native owners there was an increased track count to 128 Audio tracks, and 512 Instrument tracks. Switching between Mac/PC versions of Pro Tools is flawless on the same versions. With each release Avid also offer stability improvements. Avid, the makers of Pro Tools also introduced in-app plug-in purchases and rentals. From your description and running the Duet you would be fine with the Mini and you should not be paying more than 500-600 for it. The people that run into issues are pushing hundreds of instances of plugins in single sessions. The Evolution Of Pro Tools 12 Pro Tools 12.0 – Launched March 2015Īt launch both Pro Tools 12 and Pro Tools 12HD saw improved I/O setups and monitoring including auto down-mixing, unlimited busses. There are people still running 2009 Mac Towers on Pro Tools 10 doing a lot of work. ![]() Pro Tools setups on Macs can have problems too. If you can hack the higher price of the hardware, the Mac platform is a nice way to go-though it is not infallible. For those still unsure about what is included with Pro Tools 12 and pricing then here is everything you need to know about Pro Tools 12. Obviously, the Mac platform is a little more audio-tolerant and less likely to have hardware compatibility problems. 1 point in favor of the MBP, Core audio seems a bit more friendly.Pro Tools 12 is the latest version of Pro Tools and has since it was launched it has gone through a number of updates. Each free update released by Avid adding more functionality, and for those not using Pro Tools HD, a lot of free extra features previously only available to Pro Tools HD owners. I can't comment on the HP as I'm not sure how compatible they are(unless you get a recommendation on a specific model). I know 1TB seems huge, but once you start recording sessions and adding virtual instrument plugins and libraries, a smaller drive will get filled up pretty fast. Then, unless you are going to carry a separate external drive for your sessions(which needs to be either an SSD or a 7200 rpm spinner), then you want at least a 1TB SSD in the computer(the speed of SSD's allows you to record to the internal drive, which was a bad idea back in the age of spinning hard drives). You want a fast multi-core cpu and you want 16GB of RAM at the absolute minimum. Its more down to 2 things #1-will the class be done only on one platform(Mac or PC)? If yes, then you might want to lean in that direction. Well, the Mac fans will(of course) insist you get a Macbook Pro, but the Surface is a very capable computer.
